Note that this Leveling section is specific to MoP Remix. For our Dragonflight Leveling Guide for Arcane Mage, please check our dedicated Leveling page.
Best MoP Remix Leveling Build for Arcane Mage
Dungeon / AoE Open-World Build
This build is intended for speed-leveling and sacrifices single-target damage to maximize your ability to make huge pulls and AoE damage. This works very well in dungeons with big pulls or in outdoor content where you pull large groups of enemies.
Dungeon AoE / Open-World Build
This build is aimed primarily at Raiding content or doing Dungeons at a relatively slow pace where bosses take a decent amount of time to kill. For dungeons, where you do large trash packs, pulls, or pull trash on top of bosses, we suggest going to the AoE build.
Best Gems for Arcane Mage in MoP Remix
Gems are one of the unique ways to augment your character in MoP Remix, offering offensive, defensive, and utility benefits. On this page, we list the best gems for each type. To learn more about Gems in MoP Remix in general, check out our dedicated page below.
- Meta Gem: Lifestorm for Raids / Oblivion Sphere for dungeons or outdoor content
- Cogwheel Gem: Mostly personal preference, but Blink is always good, whereas Soulshape is very good for outdoor travel
- Prismatic Gems:
You will have a tremendous amount of stats as you start unlocking all Gem slots, and there is no single best stat to stack. Getting a lot of Haste and Versatility is a strong option, and try to avoid Critical Strike and Mastery.
- Tinker Gems:
- Windweaver
- Brilliance
- Sunstrider's Flourish
- Enkindle
- Hailstorm
- Incendiary Terror
- Lightning Rod
- Meteor Storm
- Slay
- Explosive Barrage
- Brittle — Mainly for dungeons.
- Wildfire
Level by Level Rotation
To keep things simple while leveling and learning the spec, use the slider to select your level, and watch as the leveling rotation grows with each level!

Leveling Rotation for Arcane Mage
When using our slider, note that some talents may appear sooner than you expect them to in the rotation. This is because we have two recommended builds above, each taking talents at slightly different times and sometimes entirely different talents.
Starting at Level 1, you only have one main attack ability: Frostbolt.
- Make sure you keep Arcane Intellect up at all times. Keep in mind, if you die, you have to re-cast it. Otherwise, just cast it once per hour.
- Cast Time Warp when you are about to go into a big pull or boss fight. Keep in mind you can only gain the benefit once every 10 minutes, even though the cooldown is 5 minutes.
- Use Fire Blast on cooldown.
- Cast Arcane Orb when you do not have 4 Arcane Charges.
- Cast Shifting Power when your other spells are on cooldown. Try to use it outside of combat while moving to the next enemies.
- Cast Evocation whenever it is ready to activate the large Intellect bonus. Use this shortly before activating Arcane Surge. Try to use it out of combat while moving to the next enemies.
- Cast Arcane Surge whenever it is ready, and you have 4 Arcane Charges. Make sure Touch of the Magi is ready before using Arcane Surge.
- If Touch of the Magi is ready and you have 4 Arcane Charges, Cast Arcane Barrage, immediately followed by Touch of the Magi. Ensure you cast Touch of the Magi before Arcane Barrage lands.
- Use Arcane Missiles when you get Clearcasting.
- Cast Arcane Barrage whenever you have 4 Arcane Charges and there are 3+ targets to hit with it. Additionally, whenever you are close to running out of Mana, cast Arcane Barrage. Only cast it with 4 Arcane Charges.
- Cast Arcane Explosion when there are 3 or more targets.
- Cast Arcane Blast as your filler on single target.
