Astrologian Healer Gear and Best in Slot — Dawntrail 7.1
On this page, you will find the best gear and best-in-slot items for your Astrologian Healer in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.1).
Astrologian Gearsets (BiS)
This page presents several premade best-in-slot (BiS) gear sets for end-game Savage raiding, as well as explanations that should help you choose the set that best fits your needs.
While you are gearing up, it is a good idea to have a set to work toward so that you can spend your weekly capped Tomestones effectively. However, the stat priorities of these best-in-slot sets do not necessarily apply to progression raiding. Notably, many of these sets include a large amount of Spell Speed and very little Piety (or none at all). This is not necessarily ideal for progression.
You can find Astrologian's general stat priorities and explanations on the Stats and Melding page.
There are a few things to keep in mind while considering gear sets:
- Healers usually must consider their Spell Speed and their Piety to ensure that they do not run out of MP.
- Astrologian has has a slightly weaker MP economy than the other healers in most situations, so it can be risky to use very high Spell Speed sets with low Piety for progression or chaotic environments like Party Finder groups.
- There is nothing particlarly special about any specific GCD speed for
Astrologian. Lightspeed gives you such a long weave
window for Divination that it is unlikely for
Divination to drift any significant amount in optimized play, regardless of
your GCD speed.
- However, it should be noted that a GCD of 2.35 or faster can allow you to cast an extra Fall Malefic in your opener before refreshing Combust III under raid buffs.
Astrologian Best in Slot by Encounter
Item Level 730 Sets
These are the maximum Item Level sets for this tier. They are the safest sets because they provide as much HP as possible, in addition to having more Piety than the other sets. Notably, they also provide one additional Defense tier compared to the lower Item Level sets, which will allow you to take slightly less damage from the many physical raid-wide attacks in this raid tier.
These sets provide slightly less DPS than the lower Item Level sets due to the extra Piety on the boots and gloves, so if the extra HP, Defense, and Piety are not needed, you may prefer to take the extra "free" damage from using one of the lower Item Level sets. However, if you do Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) when it releases, you should absolutely use an Item Level 730 set for that.
This first set has excellent MP economy with such a slow GCD, and it is expected to provide the highest possible DPS of any Item Level 730 set. It is also highly compatible with White Mage's best Item Level 730 set. If you are unsure which set you should use, pick this one.
This second set has a less forgiving MP economy due to its much faster GCD, but with this much Piety, it is still unlikely to be an issue. This set is expected to provide about 30 (0.25%) less DPS than the slower set listed above. It is primarily listed here as an option for players who strongly prefer a faster GCD. Even during progression in the upcoming Ultimate raid, this set should be fine if you are more comfortable with a faster GCD.
This set is also identical to the highest DPS Scholar set in the Item Level 730 bracket, so if you prefer a fast GCD and you want to play both Astrologian and Scholar, this set should serve you well.
Item Level 729 Sets
These Item Level 729 sets are a reasonable middle ground for DPS optimization without sacrificing too much HP and MP. These sets are ideal for players who generally want to optimize their DPS but are not specifically dedicated to chasing the top ranks on FFLogs.
This first set is expected to provide the highest DPS in the Item Level 729 range. With such a slow GCD, its MP economy is extremely safe. It is expected to provide about 40 (0.32%) more DPS than the best Item Level 730 set while sacrificing a (physical) Defense tier, about 1300 max HP, and 165 Piety. This set is my top recommendation for general DPS optimization.
This second set is expected to provide almost identical DPS to the 2.49 set above. It is behind by about 6 DPS and has very slightly worse GCD alignment for Divination, but it is compatible with White Mage's best Item Level 729 set.
This set is expected to provide about 25 (0.20%) less DPS than the 2.49 set listed above. It is competitive enough to be a reasonable option for players who strongly prefer a faster GCD or want a set that is compatible with a 2.32 or 2.31 Scholar set.
Item Level 727 Sets
This set is expected to provide the highest possible DPS, sacrificing an additional ~1300 HP and 165 Piety compared to the Item Level 729 sets. In exchange, it gains a grand total of about 10 (0.08%) DPS. The 2.49 Item Level 729 set is so close to this that it is difficult to justify the trade-off. I would not recommend this set for anything but chasing the top ranks on FFLogs in dedicated parse runs, or possibly for gearing a healer as an alt role with minimal gear investment.
The Omega Protocol Gearsets
The Patch 6.5 dungeon (The Lunar Subterrane) drops Item Level 635 gear that allows for small optimizations around the Item Level 635 Sync of The Omega Protocol. The Voidmoon gloves, earrings, and ring are the new pieces used in these sets.
Portions of these gear sets can only be acquired by completing the Abyssos raid tier. A guide for the content can be found links below.
This set is the standard recommendation, as it should provide the most damage. It has a base GCD of 2.31. Under Astrodyne, the GCD is reduced to 2.08, which may make double weaving difficult or impossible depending on your latency/ping. If you cannot double weave without clipping at this speed, you may wish to use a slower set.

This slower set is expected to provide about 0.6% less DPS than the 2.31 set, but it gives you more room for double weaving under Astrodyne and provides more MP for raises and extra GCD healing. Many people feel that MP is less of a concern in this encounter, especially compared to Dragonsong's Reprise, so this set is primarily recommended for players who are simply more comfortable playing with a slower GCD.
Since this set uses a Crit/Det relic, it may also be convenient if you are already using a Crit/Det relic and do not want to change its stats just for this encounter.
Dragonsong's Reprise Gearsets
The Patch 6.3 dungeon (Lapis Manalis) drops Item Level 605 gear that allows for small optimizations around the Item Level 605 Sync of Dragonsong's Reprise. The new food introduced in Patch 6.4 has also allowed for slight optimizations in stat tiering compared to what was possible in Patch 6.3.
Portions of these gear sets can only be acquired by completing the Asphodelos raid tier. A guide for the content can be found links below.
This set provides a base GCD of 2.34. Under Astrodyne, the GCD is reduced to 2.11, which may make double weaving difficult or impossible depending on your latency/ping. If you cannot double weave without clipping at this speed, you should consider using a slower set.

This slower, safer set gives you more room for double weaving under Astrodyne and leaves you with even more MP for raises and extra GCD healing.
