Frost Mage PvP Stat Priority, Gear, and Trinkets — The War Within (Season 1)
Choosing your gear carefully is important for your Frost Mage in PvP. We give you a stat priority to help you choose items with the correct stats, followed by advice on how to choose the rest of your gear and your trinkets to optimize your gameplay.
This page is part of our Frost Mage PvP Guide.
Stat Priority for Frost Mages in PvP
The stat priority for Frost Mage in PvP is as follows:
- Intellect;
- Haste;
- Versatility;
- Mastery;
- Critical Strike.
Intellect is the best stat in all situations. Haste is the best secondary state. This stat will reduce your global cooldown and the cast times of important spells like Polymorph and Glacial Spike. Versatility increases the damage you deal and reduces the damage you take. This is why you should also be wearing gear with Versatility as well.
Gear Recommendations
In general, Frost Mages want to get trinkets that line up well with Icy Veins. These trinkets can have a passive or on-use effect. The stat you want to be increasing is Intellect or Haste. You want to increase Intellect because it drastically increases your overall damage output. Haste, meanwhile, allows for quicker casts to maximize damage. For more information about Icy Veins and your rotation in PvP, please refer to our dedicated page.

Frost Mage Tier Set
As noted above, acquiring both your 2-set and 4-set bonus is crucial. It is important to note that ALL tier sets are nerfed by 50% in PvP. Although this nerf is significant, tier sets are still important to acquire to maximize your chances to win. For Frost Mages, this is your tier set:
- 2-set: Ice Lance damage increased by 8%.
- 4-set: Damage dealt by Fingers of Frost enhanced Ice Lance invoke a Frigid Pulse, dealing Frost damage to nearby targets. Damage reduced beyond 8 targets.
4-set is not required for Frost Mages, but getting 2-set is recommended.
Frost Mage Embellishments
Embellishments are bonuses that can be put on crafted gear. These effects can have a drastic impact on the game. You are only allowed to have two Embellishments equipped at the same time. Here are the recommended Embellishments for Frost Mage:
- Ascendance/ Writhing Armor Banding. While in combat, Ascendance grants 89 of a random secondary stat, stacking up to 10 times. Writhing Armor Banding doubles this affect. This combination of Embellishments is the best for Frost Mage. Ascendance can only be crafted on a weapon.
Gems and Enchants
Here are the best enchants for a Frost Mage:
- Cloak: Enchant Cloak - Chant of Burrowing Rapidity
- Chest: Enchant Chest - Crystalline Radiance
- Bracers: Enchant Bracer - Chant of Armored Speed
- Legs: Sunset Spellthread
- Boots: Enchant Boots - Scout's March
- Rings: Enchant Ring - Glimmering Haste
- Weapon: Enchant Weapon - Authority of Radiant Power
Quick Sapphire is the best gem you can use. You also get access to a single Meta Gem. Using Cognitive Bloodstone is ideal for the meta slot.
